Airy community by bringing the residents together to participate in and enjoy the arts.  Whether its art classes for children or adults, amazing art exhibitions or cutting edge plays on the mainstage, there is something for everyone at Allens Lane.

THEATER CLASSES - Children/Teens/Adults

Pre-registration is REQUIRED for all classes.

To register for classes, please use our Online Registration Form or you can print out our form (.pdf) and mail with check, money order or Mastercard/Visa number to the address on the form. If you have questions, call 215-248-0546. Classes will run only if enough students register. If you are registered for a class and it does not run, you will be notified of the cancellation and your class fee will be refunded. Otherwise, assume the class is running. Please pre-register! Registration deadline for all classes is 3 business days prior to the first class. Please note that some classes are run by third party vendors who do their own registration. Details are provided next to the class information. Any material fees are to be paid to the teacher on the first day of class.

Staging Silverstein (ages 6 - 11)

Theater Class kStudentsThis class is about working with alternative texts, like poems and popular stories to present them in a theatrical way while still conveying the prime message or intent of the original text. We will start by working with readings, using different voices and characterizations. Using several  poems by Shel Silverstein. Then Students will work on blocking, division of text and characterizations for presentation in a showcase at the end of the 8 week class session. This class will exercise staging skills, acting skills, script interpretation skills and overall performance skills, while being fun and challenging for young performers.

Theater Sports and Improvisation (ages 10 - 17)
Instructor: Mariangela Saavedra
Theater Class kStudentsLearn the basic structure and “rules” of Improv and Theater Sports. Games like "What are you doing?", "Three Entrances" and "Sound Toss" are just a few of the Games we will explore and play.  Then we will move on to more difficult Improv scenes, and complex Theater Sports such as "Why I am late for work" and "The never ending story".   Fun and engaging, these Theater Sports encourage creativity, keep children engaged and excited about creative play and performance. They also develop strong acting and performance skills,playing to the strengths of each individual participant. The session will end with a showcase for families and friends, that will include demonstrations of our favorite games, and performances of our best scenes developed through improv.

Intro to Acting (ages 18 - 90)
Instructor: Marilyn Yoblick
A 10 week class offering an introduction to acting.  Through exercises, improvisation and scene study, this class will culminate in a public performance.  Both actors and non actors will explore stagecraft in a safe,non threatening environment.  Need to boost your confidence?  This class will help you.  Do you need to speak in public and are terrified?  This class will help to overcome those fears.  Anyone can learn  how to build a character from page to stage.  Learn how to trust yourself and others.  Join us, have fun and discover your inner actor.
Saturdays: 1:00 - 2:30pm
$150 for 10 week session
