THEATER CLASSES - Children/Teens/Adults

Pre-registration is REQUIRED for all classes.

To register for classes, please use our Online Registration Form or you can print out our form (.pdf) and mail with check, money order or Mastercard/Visa number to the address on the form. If you have questions, call 215-248-0546. Classes will run only if enough students register. If you are registered for a class and it does not run, you will be notified of the cancellation and your class fee will be refunded. Otherwise, assume the class is running.

Please pre-register! Registration deadline for all classes is 3 business days prior to the first class. After that, there will be a $20 late administration fee added to the cost of the class. Please note that some classes are run by third party vendors who do their own registration. Details are provided next to the class information. Any material fees are to be paid to the teacher on the first day of class.

Staging Silverstein (ages 6 - 11)

Theater Class kStudentsThis class is about working with alternative texts, like poems, songs and popular stories to present them in a theatrical way while still conveying the prime message or intent of the original text. We will start by working with readings, using different voices and characterizations. We will use several  poems by Shel Silverstein and some popular song lyrics as our scripts. Then Students will work on blocking, division of text and characterizations for presentation in a showcase at the end of the 8 week class session. This class will exercise staging skills, acting skills, script interpretation skills and overall performance skills, while being fun and challenging for young performers.

Theater Sports and
Improvisation (ages 10 - 17)
Instructor: Mariangela Saavedra
Theater Class kStudentsLearn the basic structure and “rules” of Improv and Scene Study. Games like "What are you doing?", "Three Entrances" and "Party Quirks" are just a few of the Games we will explore and play.  Then we will move onto more difficult Improv scenes, and complex Improv Games. Fun and engaging, these improv exercises will encourage creativity, as we use the skills developed through these games to work on scenes with scripted text for performance at the end of the session. Students will develop strong acting and stage presence skills, playing to the strengths of each individual participant. The session will end with a showcase for families and friends, that will include demonstrations of our favorite games, and performances of our best scenes worked on during the session.

One-Day Theater Workshops for Kids

Let Us Entertain You! (9 yrs and up)
Create a new show all in One Day

Saturday January 27th, 2018
11:00am- 4:00pm
Performance at 3:30pm

Everyone is the star when they write and create their own show from scratch! Using improv games, brainstorming activities and story boards students will write, create, stage and perform their very own one of a kind show all in one day! The show may include music elements, dance elements, audience participation, drama, comedy, costumes, props and anything our imaginations can come up with that we can procure and rehearse in 4 hours! A light snack will be provided in the afternoon, but students are encouraged to bring a brown bag lunch to eat during the day.
Performance for family and friends will be at 3:30pm in the Allens Lane Theater!

Intro to Acting (ages 18 - 90)
Instructor: Marilyn Yoblick
Need to boost your confidence? This class will help you. Do you need to speak in public and are terrified? This class will help to overcome those fears. Anyone can learn how to build a character from page to stage. Learn how to trust yourself and others. Join us, have fun and discover your inner actor. This 10 week class offers a beginners introduction to acting. Through exercises, improvisation and scene study, this class will culminate in a final performance. Both actors and non actors will explore stagecraft in a safe, non-threatening environment.
