Teaching Staff Profiles

Audrey Bookspan
holds a B.A. in Dance from Adelphi University. She has studied with Martha Graham, LaVaughn Robinson, Jose Limon and Pearl Primus among other notables. As a dancer and choreographer, she has taught at Allens Lane since 1955 where she founded the Circus Arts Program.

Terry Brennan graduated from Dell Arte School of Physical Theater in California and recently co-founded the Tribe of Fools, a physical theater company based in Philadelphia. He has a B.A. in Theater from University of Nebraska, Omaha. He is a member of the Tribe of Fools, a newly formed physical theater company based in Germantown. He has also worked with the Traveling Lantern Theatre Company and the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival, and has performed at venues throughout the country, including ALAC.

Dallas Bryant ("Estagiario Aranaha" in Capoeira) has been practicing Capoeira for over four years, studying mainly with Mestre Doutor. A native Philadelphian, he teaches classes throughout the region.

Sandy Crimmins has published in a variety of printed and electronic literary magazines and in the anthologies Meridian Bound, The Eternal Now and Pagan's Muse and has been read as part of David Sanders' Writing Aloud program at the InterAct Theatre. In addition, she has written and performed spoken word shows with musicians, fire eaters and dancers.

Benjamin DeMott holds a B.F.A. in Ceramics from Tyler School of Art where he was also a teaching assistant for four years. His work has been exhibited in juried shows in Philadelphia, Indianapolis and Scotland.

Robert Fluhr has an M.F.A. in Ceramics and Industrial Design from Alfred University and a B.F.A. from Tyler School of Art. He taught ceramics in the Philadelphia public school system for 30 years and currently curates the Allens Lane Gallery in addition to running the Vision Thru Art program.

Aline Gittleman has a B.F.A. from Washington University and an M.F.A. from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Jewelry and Metalsmithing. She has taught at RISD and Rhode Island College, and currently teaches in the Art Department at the Baldwin School. Her work includes internationally exhibited jewelry and silversmithing, plus explorations in the "Point Zero" painting process.

Adina Gratz graduated Cum Laude from Tyler School of Art with a B.F.A. in Jewelry Making. She has been making her original beaded jewelry for three years.

Kate Hochner has taught pottery and tile-making to students of all ages. She holds a B.F.A. in Ceramics from Alfred University and a Master's in Education from Nazareth College.

Richard Lieberman has taught at ALAC for over 40 years. The recipient of numerous awards, he has exhibited nationally and worked with leading sculptors here and abroad.

Douglas Lynch has a M.F.A. in Painting from Tyler School of Art where he was also a teaching assistant in clay, figure modeling and figure drawing classes. He has a B.F.A. in Painting from the University of Cincinnati, and has exhibited his work at various galleries in Pennsylvania and Ohio.

Martha Kent Martin has a B.F.A. in Metalsmithing from Tyler School of Art and is a Certified Instructor in Precious Metal Clay. She is Head of the Jewelry Department at Abington Art Center and has exhibited her work throughout the country.

Gary G. Miller has a B.F.A. from Mercier University and attended PAFA and Pratt Institute. He is a substitute art teacher at Plymouth Meeting Friends School and Germantown Friends School. Since 1997, Gary has taught children's art classes at Woodmere Art Museum and he serves on their Education Committee.

Marta Reis received her B.F.A. in 1991 from The University of the Arts. She has worked in cinematography and management consulting, and currently runs the Visionality office form Narberth, PA with clients ranging from dancers to musicians to authors. She recently formed the Spiritual Cinema Community, a forum for artists to discuss and develop creative works that combine spirituality, entertainment, networking, support and inspiration.

Christopher Roberts received his B.F.A. from the University of the Arts, and went to Naropa University to complete the Lecoq Based Actor Created Theater program. Philadelphia credits include Pig Iron's Anodyne, Apparatus Collective's Pale, and Tribe of Fools' Echo. He secured an Artist in Residency through the Genesis Program at Brandeis University to workshop the next Tribe of Fools' production, Gimpel the Fool. He can now be seen performing in Enchantment Theatre's Pinocchio.

Lisa Shaffmaster has been directing and teaching acting in the Philadelphia area for over 30 years. She has taught at Cheltenham Center for the Arts, Germantown Women's Y and Cheltenham Adult Night School.

Kim Williams studied Theater at Allentown College (now DeSales University) and Dance with Jean Williams in Philadelphia. Born and raised in Mt. Airy, she spent seven years performing throughout Europe, the Middle and Far East with the New York-based touring company Finnan Productions. She has directed and choreographed numerous children's shows and has been teaching classes at Allens Lane since 1990.

Jay Wojnarowski graduated from Dell Arte School of Physical Theater in California and recently co-founded the Tribe of Fools, a physical theater company based in Philadelphia. He holds a B.A. in Theatre from Allentown College (now DeSales University), and his performing credits include roles in Little Red Riding Hood, Sonnets, Pigs and Funny Things, On the Razzle and The Seagull, among many others.

Timothy Yue has been tap dancing for seventeen years, and has studied Tap with LaVaughn Robinson and Tabla (Indian classical drumming) with K. Prashant. He is a dancer and choreographer for Tap Team Two and Company, and has performed "Hoofing in America" at schools in seven states. Tim holds a degree in Mathematics from the University of Pennsylvania.
